NNDC to Overhaul Governance, Business Model — Chairman

-

The Chairman of New Nigeria Development Company, Alhaji Lamis Shehu Dikko, has announced plans to strengthen the organisation’s governance structure and reposition its operations to improve performance and investment outcomes.

Dikko disclosed this at the opening of a two-day Board and Management retreat held at Wells Carlton Hotels & Apartments, where he outlined a renewed strategy to transform NNDC into a more efficient and value-driven holding company.

“We will drive a focused and value-driven portfolio strategy anchored by disciplined capital allocation, clarity of direction, execution discipline and consistency in leadership,” he said.

He explained that the retreat was convened to enable board members, management and external experts to undertake a comprehensive review of the company’s business model, identify operational challenges and chart a path toward long-term strategic advantage.

According to Dikko, NNDC’s performance across its diverse investment portfolio has been uneven despite its long-standing role in promoting industrialisation and economic development across Northern Nigeria.

“For over seven decades, NNDC has stood as a cornerstone of economic aspiration and enterprise in the region. However, financial outcomes have not consistently reflected the scale of our potential,” he noted, adding that the retreat would translate reflections on past performance into “clear decisions, practical priorities and measurable outcomes.”

In his remarks, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Shehu Mai-Bornu, stressed the need for reforms to reposition NNDC as a key driver of industrial development in Northern Nigeria, in line with its founding objectives.

The retreat, facilitated by KPMG, brought together experts from various sectors, including Suleiman Ndanusa, Mohammed Kari, Mohammed Hayatuddeen, Aliyu Suleiman and Kemi Babalogun.
