The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has transformed its Faculty of Education into a College of Education as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening academic excellence and improving institutional performance.
The pioneer Provost of the College, Dr. Ahmad Shuaibu Abdullahi, said the restructuring followed a resolution of the University’s Senate to reposition teacher education and enhance efficiency in the delivery of academic programmes.
Speaking in an interview with the FUDMA Weekly Bulletin, Dr. Abdullahi explained that the College currently comprises two faculties—the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Science Education.
He disclosed that the Faculty of Science Education, headed in acting capacity by Dr. Abdulmalik Sabitu, consists of the Departments of Science Education and Human Kinetics and Health Education.
According to him, the Faculty of Education has six departments, namely Educational Foundations, Special Education, Educational Psychology and Counselling, Educational Management, Arts and Social Sciences Education, and Library and Information Science.
The Provost revealed that plans were underway to relocate the Department of Library and Information Science from the Faculty of Social Sciences to the College to consolidate its programmes and strengthen academic collaboration.
Dr. Abdullahi said the College was established to align teacher education with international best practices through improved curriculum development, enhanced research and stronger partnerships with universities and colleges of education within and outside Nigeria.
He noted that the College also intends to promote collaborative research, staff and student exchanges, workshops and mentorship programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning.
The Provost stressed that the institution would continue to uphold high academic standards by encouraging discipline, quality research, innovation and healthy academic competition among students.
He added that the College would intensify community engagement through outreach programmes, public awareness campaigns and educational initiatives designed to address local socio-economic challenges and contribute to national development.
