Kogunan Sokoto Hails Ahmed Aliyu’s Road Reconstruction Drive, Urges Completion of Key Projects

-

Former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr. Nasir Danladi Bako, OON, Kogunan Sokoto, has commended Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, for the extensive rehabilitation and reconstruction of township roads across the state, describing the intervention as a major boost to urban infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Friday, Bako praised the governor for resurfacing and rebuilding numerous inner-city roads in and around the Sokoto metropolis, many of which, according to him, were last constructed during the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon, while others dated back to the era of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello and the Northern Nigeria Development Plan of the 1960s.

He listed some of the rehabilitated roads as those within the Sahara, J Allen, Buzayye and Bado areas, noting that the projects had significantly improved road conditions in the state capital.

The former NBC boss also lauded the construction of service lanes around major roundabouts and the remodelling of the Mai Ruwa and Sokoto Guest Inn roundabouts, saying the improvements had eased traffic congestion within the metropolis.

While commending the administration’s efforts, Bako appealed to Governor Aliyu to extend the road rehabilitation programme to other densely populated areas, including Mabera Mujaya, Runjin Sambo and Gidan Dare.

He also acknowledged the construction of the new terminal at the Sultan Abubakar III Airport and the beautification of the approach roads leading into Sokoto city, Government House and Kofar Taramniya towards the Sultan’s Palace.

Bako further urged the state government to complete some inherited projects, particularly the teaching hospital along Airport Road and other unfinished developments, noting that the completion of the Rijiya Diplomat flyover in 2023 had demonstrated the value of seeing inherited projects through for the benefit of the public.

He expressed optimism that the Ahmed Aliyu administration would sustain its development agenda by continuing the construction and rehabilitation of mosques, as well as primary and secondary schools across the state.

The Kogunan Sokoto also attributed the administration’s development strides to the guidance of former Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, describing him as a key leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
