The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, has said that resolutions reached at the Renewed Hope Housing Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Summit will form a key part of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan for transforming housing delivery and stimulating economic growth in Nigeria.
Darma stated this during his ministerial address at the second edition of the Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre on Tuesday.
The summit, themed “From Policy to Projects: Financing and Delivering Housing at Scale through PPPs,” brought together government officials, financial institutions, developers, private sector operators and development partners to discuss sustainable housing solutions.
The minister disclosed that the Ministry’s Strategic Plan would be unveiled before the end of May after consultations with departments and agencies under the ministry are concluded.
According to him, the framework will provide a clear roadmap for implementing housing policies and projects through collaboration with the private sector and other stakeholders.
“Whatever plan we come up with, we will pursue diligently to ensure that it delivers meaningful results for Nigerians,” he said.
Highlighting ongoing projects under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, Darma revealed that housing estates in Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos State, Lambu in Kano State and Karsana in Abuja would be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu upon completion.
He said the ministry intends to scale up housing delivery nationwide through sustainable public-private partnership models, innovative financing mechanisms and broader stakeholder participation.
The minister added that the projects have already generated employment for thousands of artisans, engineers, contractors, suppliers and other professionals while boosting economic activities in host communities.
He also announced that the ministry, in partnership with the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, is constructing 1,550 housing units for military personnel to improve their welfare and living conditions.
While acknowledging progress recorded so far, Darma stressed the need for timely completion of ongoing projects in line with required standards.
“We remain fully committed to the timely completion and commissioning of all ongoing Renewed Hope Housing Projects across the country,” he said.
The minister urged financial institutions to develop more flexible and accessible housing finance products tailored to the realities of Nigerians, while calling on state governments to provide land and enabling environments for housing development.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Shuaib Belgore, commended Darma for supporting the continuity of the summit despite the recent leadership transition in the ministry.
Belgore said the summit focused on practical implementation challenges, including financing, land access, project structuring and partnerships required for large-scale housing delivery.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Renewed Hope Housing Magazine, a publication aimed at documenting the ministry’s activities, showcasing projects, promoting investment opportunities and strengthening stakeholder engagement in the housing sector.
