Katsina State has reached a major milestone in the development of its 1-megawatt Danja Mini Hydropower Project with the completion of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Geotechnical Survey required for the execution of the project.
The development followed a strategic review meeting between the Special Adviser to the Governor on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, and representatives of the French Embassy, during which the progress of the project, co-financed by the French Treasury, was assessed.
According to the state government, the completion of the two technical studies provides the environmental, social and engineering framework needed for the successful implementation of the hydropower project.
The government said the achievement reflects its commitment to ensuring that infrastructure projects are carefully planned, professionally executed and implemented in line with international best practices.
It noted that the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has prioritised thorough project preparation to safeguard public investment, minimise implementation risks and ensure long-term value for residents.
When completed, the Danja Mini Hydropower Project is expected to provide clean and reliable electricity to communities, support agricultural and industrial activities, stimulate rural economic development, create employment opportunities and strengthen the state’s renewable energy capacity.
The Katsina State Government commended the French Treasury for co-financing the project and expressed appreciation to the French Embassy for its continued partnership and technical support.
It said the collaboration demonstrates the confidence of international development partners in the state’s governance and development agenda.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships aimed at accelerating renewable energy development, promoting innovation and technology transfer, and driving inclusive economic growth across Katsina State.
