President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
The appointment was announced in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.
According to the Presidency, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, improving intelligence-driven operations and enhancing collaboration among security agencies in tackling emerging threats across the country.
Major General Famadewa, a retired senior military officer, served for more than three decades in various national security and intelligence roles covering counter-terrorism, intelligence coordination, national security strategy and international security diplomacy.
Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he played a major role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.
He was credited with spearheading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at ONSA, an integrated platform designed to improve collaboration among key security agencies including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), the National Intelligence Agency>, the Department of State Services>, the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.
Following his retirement from military service, Famadewa worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, focusing on policing, civil-security cooperation and national security reforms.
He is also the author of the monograph, Policing and National Security in Nigeria, which examines frameworks for strengthening cooperation between civil authorities and security institutions.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general’s experience and strategic expertise would support the administration’s efforts to improve homeland security coordination, intelligence integration and proactive risk management.
The President also urged him to deploy his experience and professionalism in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and national security objectives.
