Tinubu Appoints New PTDF Executive Secretary, Renews TCN MD’s Tenure

-

Abuja, April 2, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), while also renewing the tenure of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz.

The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced in a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday.

Professor Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently resigned his position to contest the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

Until his appointment, Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy Adult and Non-Formal Education. He is described as an academic and administrator with extensive experience in education, research and institutional leadership.

The President said the appointment is aimed at strengthening the PTDF and advancing human capital development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. He urged the new PTDF boss to deploy his experience to reposition the agency for greater impact, particularly in innovation and capacity building.

In a related development, Tinubu approved a second and final term for Abdulaziz as head of TCN, following what the Presidency described as a positive assessment of his performance.

Under his leadership, the transmission company has recorded improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity and modernisation of infrastructure, reinforcing its role in Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

Abdulaziz, who has over three decades of experience in the power sector, has also contributed to regional electricity integration through his involvement in the West African Power Pool (WAPP).

The President urged both appointees to discharge their duties with diligence and integrity in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
