Seven Shot, Two Killed in Suspected Bandit Attack in Bakori Area of Katsina

-

At least two people have been confirmed dead and five others injured following a suspected bandit attack along the Guga–Turare road in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident, which occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on April 20, 2026, reportedly involved armed assailants who blocked the road and attacked commuters.

A joint patrol team of security agents in Bakori was said to have responded swiftly to the scene after receiving distress information. Upon arrival, security operatives found seven victims with gunshot injuries and immediately evacuated them to a hospital in Bakori for urgent medical attention.

Sources indicated that three of the victims were initially admitted at the Bakori facility, while four others were referred to the General Hospital in Funtua due to the severity of their injuries.

Two victims—identified as Nura and a female whose name had yet to be confirmed—were reported dead. Two others were said to be in critical condition, while the remaining victims were receiving treatment for less severe injuries.

All the victims are believed to be residents of Kakumi, Guga, and surrounding communities.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene after carting away a motorcycle and other personal belongings belonging to one of the victims.

Security operatives have launched efforts to identify all victims and track down the perpetrators. Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.

The latest incident underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of Katsina State, particularly in rural communities vulnerable to banditry and armed attacks.
