LG Inspectorate Warns Contractor Over Substandard Work in Batagarawa

-

By Lawal Gwanda

The Special Adviser to the Katsina State Governor on Local Government Inspectorate, Hon. Lawal Rufa’i Safana, has warned a contractor handling the construction of staff quarters at Yargamji and Dabaibayawa Primary Healthcare Centres in Batagarawa Local Government Area over alleged substandard work.

Hon. Safana issued the warning during an inspection of the ongoing construction projects at the two healthcare facilities, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work carried out by the contractor.

After identifying several structural anomalies, the Special Adviser directed the contractor to completely remove the rafters already installed and reconstruct the head course properly before reinstalling them. He also instructed that 2×6-inch timber, instead of the previously used 2×4-inch wood, must be used for the rafters and treated with anti-termite chemicals to ensure durability.

The Special Adviser further observed that the structure was not being watered regularly, a necessary step to strengthen the building. He therefore ordered that consistent watering of the structure be carried out to enhance its longevity.

Hon. Safana warned that all corrections must be implemented to his satisfaction, stressing that failure to comply with the directives could lead to the revocation of the contract.

During the visit, the Special Adviser also inspected the recently rehabilitated and renovated Alale and Dabaibayawa Primary Schools in Batagarawa Local Government Area, which were previously among the most dilapidated schools in the area.

The inspection team included the Director of Inspection and an engineer from the relevant ministry, while the Director of Works and the unit head from Batagarawa Local Government were present during the exercise.
