Katsina Takes Delivery of 15 Intensive Care Ambulances to Launch 24-Hour Emergency Services

-

The Katsina State Government has taken delivery of 15 newly procured, fully equipped Intensive Care Emergency Ambulances to support the rollout of 24-hour emergency medical services across the state.

The ambulances, acquired under the State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (SEMSAS), are designed to improve rapid response to accidents, medical emergencies and disasters, as part of ongoing healthcare reforms under Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.

Each vehicle is fitted with modern life-support systems, including oxygen units, patient monitors, stretchers and essential resuscitation equipment, enabling emergency responders to stabilise patients while in transit to health facilities.

Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir

Receiving the ambulances on behalf of the state government, the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, described the development as another fulfilled commitment of the Radda administration to strengthen healthcare delivery.

He noted that increased road construction and rehabilitation across the state would naturally lead to higher vehicular movement and a corresponding rise in accident risks, stressing the need for government preparedness.

The Chief of Staff explained that the ambulances would operate round the clock and be strategically stationed along major highways, densely populated areas and within communities to ensure swift response to emergencies.

“These are not just vehicles; they are mobile intensive care units meant to save lives at the most critical moments,” he said, adding that a single emergency call should be sufficient to mobilise help within minutes.

He emphasised that no resident of Katsina State should lose their life due to delayed access to emergency care, noting that the administration is deliberately investing in high-quality medical infrastructure to reduce avoidable deaths and ease pressure on secondary and tertiary health facilities.

According to him, the programme is people-centred and aimed at making healthcare accessible at all hours, both in urban and rural areas of the state.

Alhaji Nasir further disclosed that a coordinated management framework would be established in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Ministry of Health and relevant local government authorities to ensure effective deployment, monitoring and supervision of the ambulances.

With the phased deployment of the vehicles across the three senatorial zones and major health facilities, emergency response time in Katsina State is expected to improve significantly, while hospital referrals are projected to become faster and safer.

The procurement of the ambulances was approved by the Katsina State Executive Council at its 17th meeting held on November 22, 2025.

The development is expected to expand access to life-saving emergency care and strengthen the state’s overall healthcare delivery system.
