Katsina Students Win Silver at International Science Competition in Tunisia

-

Two students from Government College, Funtua in Katsina State have emerged second overall in the Environmental Science category at the 2026 I-Fest² Projects Competition held in Tunisia.

The students, Abdullahi Sani Matoya and Abubakar Abdullahi, alongside their teacher, Malam Yazid Ahmed, secured the award after competing against entries from dozens of countries at the international event organised by the Association for the Future of Sciences and Technology.

The I-Fest² competition, now in its 17th edition, attracted over 1,200 students presenting about 450 projects from 40 countries, showcasing innovation in science, technology, and environmental research.

Reacting to the achievement, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda congratulated the students, describing their success as a reflection of ongoing reforms in the state’s education sector.

“This achievement proves that our education reforms are bringing real results. Our young people have the talent and innovation to compete with the best in the world,” the governor said.

He commended the students for making the state and the country proud on the global stage, noting that their participation in the competition was part of efforts to invest in the future of Katsina.

Radda also praised their teacher, Malam Yazid Ahmed, for his role in guiding the students to success, while urging other students to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.
