Katsina Governor Warns APC Candidates Against Taking Voters’ Support for Granted

-

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has charged APC leaders, elected officials and candidates to prioritise unity, reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Radda gave the charge on Saturday while inaugurating the Tinubu/Dikko 2027 Campaign Council at the new APC State Headquarters in Katsina, where he urged members to intensify engagement across the state’s 34 local government areas and 361 wards.

The governor, who chairs the council, said the party’s electoral success would depend on collective responsibility, effective coordination and sustained mobilisation from polling units to the state level.

“I urge you to sustain this spirit of unity and commitment for our great party, the APC,” he said, appreciating party members for their continued support for his administration.

Radda called on APC stakeholders to work towards the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s victory in the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections.

He urged political leaders to acknowledge their shortcomings, listen to one another and pursue reconciliation where necessary, stressing that previous electoral support should not be taken for granted.

“We must return to our communities and seek the understanding, cooperation and support of our people. We should approach this task with humility, as though we are seeking their votes for the first time,” he said.

The governor also commended former aspirants who had agreed to work together after the party’s primaries, urging candidates, National Assembly members and other political office holders to return to their constituencies, engage their constituents and reconcile with anyone they might have offended.

Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa

In his remarks, the Director-General of the campaign council, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the Radda administration had fulfilled more than 70 per cent of the promises made during consultations with communities across the state’s 361 wards.

Dangiwa, who thanked the governor and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, recalled that he led the APC campaign in 2023, when the party won all three senatorial seats, 13 of the 15 House of Representatives seats, 33 of the 34 State Assembly seats and the governorship.

He said the 2027 campaign would build on that record through wider consultation, improved coordination and stronger grassroots participation, with party unity and reconciliation serving as its foundation.

The Director-General urged council members to place collective interest above personal considerations in pursuit of the party’s electoral objectives.

Deputy Director-General, Operations, Hon. Abdulkadir Mohammed Nasir, announced that campaign activities would commence on October 28, 2026.

Nasir said the party planned to strengthen mobilisation at polling-unit, ward and local government levels, with the number of representatives at each polling unit to increase from nine to 30, including at least 10 women.

He added that verification of representatives was ongoing and that the mobilisation structure would accommodate elected officials, party leaders, members of the business community, religious leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders.

According to him, zonal tours would commence from Funtua, Daura and Katsina.

The APC State Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the campaign council, Hon. Bishir Gambo Saulawa, described the inauguration as significant and commended Radda for sustaining unity within the party. He also referred to preparations surrounding the primaries and the clearance of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika

Co-chairman of the council and former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, assured the governor of continued support from stakeholders in Daura Zone, while calling for unity and coordinated mobilisation.

Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa

Minister of Art, Culture and Tourism and Grand Patron of the council, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, pledged the support of Funtua Zone for Tinubu and Radda. She also commended the governor for retaining Dangiwa as Director-General.

Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa

Another co-chairman, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, urged party leaders to strengthen mobilisation through local government and ward structures, emphasising the need for coordination and collective commitment.

Representing lawmakers, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, Senator Muntari Mohammed Dandutse and Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura pledged support for the campaign, stressing grassroots mobilisation and the need to communicate the party’s achievements to voters.

Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed

Chairman of Kaita Local Government Area and National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Hon. Bello Lawal, pledged coordinated mobilisation by council chairmen across the 34 local government areas.

Chairman of APC Stakeholders, Alhaji Salisu Mamman Continental, also assured the party of continued support, while business mogul and Grand Patron of the campaign council, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, expressed confidence in the party’s preparations for the elections.

The inauguration formally brings the state campaign council into operation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its leadership emphasising reconciliation, coordinated communication and grassroots engagement as key elements of the campaign.
