The Assembly of Health Care Professionals, Katsina State has announced the suspension of its ongoing seven-day warning strike.
The decision is contained in a circular dated 17th October, 2026 and signed by the Chairman of the Assembly, Comrade Ibrahim A. Balange. The circular was addressed to all comrades of the Assembly, which comprises the Medical and Health Workers Union (MIWUN), the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANHM) and the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP).
According to the circular, the suspension followed a meeting between the leadership of the Assembly and the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, on 16th October, 2026.
The Assembly said the Governor committed to immediately reopen negotiations with the union, including a comprehensive review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) implementation, a review of all professional allowances and the CONHESS 10 skipping issue, and the establishment of a Joint Technical Committee.

The circular listed five firm commitments secured from the state government:
Immediate reopening of negotiations through a Technical Roundtable (TR);
Full review and implementation of CONHESS in line with extant circulars;
Comprehensive review and payment of all allowances including Hazard, Call Duty, Shift Duty and other CONHESS-related allowances;
Resolution of CONHESS 10 Skipping for qualified officers as provided in the Scheme of Service;
Establishment of a Joint Technical Committee with clear Terms of Reference and timeline.
“Consequently, the Assembly has unanimously agreed to suspend the ongoing seven-day warning strike effective 00:00 a.m. on 18th October, 2026,” the statement said.
The Assembly directed all its members to resume full clinical and administrative services across all health facilities in Katsina State from 18th October, 2026.
The union appreciated its members for their cooperation, resilience and solidarity throughout the period of the warning strike, and also thanked Governor Radda for his “immediate response and fatherly intervention.”
“We assure you that the union remains committed to protecting the interests and welfare of its members, and we will not compromise on these responsibilities,” the Assembly added.
