Katsina Government Warns Against Fraud in Women Empowerment Programme

-

The Katsina State Government has warned members of the public against falling victim to fraudsters exploiting its ongoing empowerment programme for widows and vulnerable women, emphasizing that the initiative is entirely free of charge.

In a public notice issued by the Ministry of Women Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministries of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Religious Affairs, Health, the Hisbah Board, and the Community Development Programme, the government clarified that no fees are required at any stage of participation.

The programme, which focuses on livelihood support, counselling, training, empowerment, and settlement of widows and vulnerable women across the state, is designed to be accessible without any financial obligation from beneficiaries.

The government stressed that it has not authorized any individual or group to act as agents on its behalf. It warned that anyone claiming to facilitate access to the programme in exchange for money is engaging in fraudulent activity.

According to the statement, the selection process for beneficiaries is transparent and based on merit, with recommendations drawn from communities. It added that all official communication regarding the programme will be conveyed through verified government channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and citizen protection, the government urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious demands for payment.

Members of the public who encounter such incidents are advised to report to the Ministry of Women Affairs through the designated phone line: 09135300500.

The government also called on residents to stay informed and avoid falling prey to scams as it continues efforts to ensure that empowerment initiatives reach intended beneficiaries without exploitation.
