Katsina Disburses ₦328m Allowances to 650 Medical Students

-

KATSINA — The Katsina State Government has disbursed over ₦328 million as Phase I of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme to support 650 students studying medicine and related courses in 33 accredited universities.

The allowance, approved by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, amounts to ₦328,123,392.35 and is aimed at strengthening human capital development in the healthcare sector.

General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (KTHSMB), Muhammad Nazir Shehu, confirmed the disbursement in a statement issued through the board secretary, Abu Usman.

According to the board, the scheme covers medical students studying both within and outside Nigeria and is intended to ease financial burdens associated with their academic and professional training.

“This is a strategic investment by the state government to build a competent and resilient healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation,” Shehu said.

He explained that the initiative would enable students to focus on their studies without financial distractions while supporting the state’s long-term healthcare development agenda.

The board also urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the support and maintain high standards of professionalism and academic excellence.

Officials said additional phases of the allowance scheme are expected as part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen the state’s health sector through sustained investment in medical education and workforce development.
