FG Reaffirms Commitment to Housing Investment Ahead of PPP Summit

-

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for housing investment and expanding affordable housing delivery through public-private partnerships.

Darma stated this while receiving the Chief Executive Officer of Shelter Advisory Services, Olayemi Rotimi Shodinmu, in Abuja ahead of the second edition of the Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit scheduled for May 12, 2026.

The summit, organised in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, will hold at the Yar’Adua Centre.

“Our Ministry is proud to partner with Shelter Advisory Services for the second edition of the Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit,” the minister said.

He described housing as more than just shelter, noting that it serves as a foundation for economic growth, job creation and national development.

According to him, the Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is strengthening public-private partnerships to unlock investment, scale up housing delivery and expand access to affordable homes.

Earlier, Shodinmu said the summit was designed to move discussions on housing beyond policy debates to practical implementation and measurable impact in Nigerian cities and communities.

He described public-private partnerships as the most viable pathway for mobilising long-term finance, aligning public land and infrastructure with private sector expertise and delivering housing at the scale required to address the country’s housing deficit.

The summit will also feature a technical workshop for heads of housing agencies and developers on leveraging PPPs and joint ventures for housing development. The training is expected to focus on housing finance structures and practical models for implementing viable PPP projects.

The keynote address at the summit will be delivered by Elena Panaritis, founder of Thought4Action and an international expert on property rights reform, informal economies and PPP-driven housing development.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour, while Darma will deliver the ministerial address.
