The Katsina State Government has commenced the selection process for a special foreign scholarship programme that will sponsor 34 indigenous students to study Medicine (MBBS) in Russian universities.

The approval was granted by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to the State Coordination Committee on the Special Foreign Scholarship Programme, according to a press release issued by the committee.

Under the initiative, one candidate will be selected from each of the state’s 34 local government areas through a merit-based examination.

The committee invited qualified indigenes of Katsina State who are interested in studying Medicine to submit their applications online.

To qualify, applicants must possess a Senior School Certificate (WAEC or NECO) with at least eight credits obtained in one sitting, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English Language. Candidates are also required to have at least two distinctions.

Applicants must be between 16 and 23 years old at the time of application and must have attended public (government-owned) secondary schools.

The committee stated that applicants are required to upload copies of their academic credentials, birth certificate, certificate of indigene, and an endorsement letter from their local government chairman as part of the application process.

Applications are to be submitted to the Chairman of the Katsina State Special Foreign Scholarship Programme Coordination Committee through the designated online portal on or before Friday, June 26, 2026.

According to the committee, shortlisted candidates will subsequently be informed of the date and venue of the qualifying examination through their registered telephone numbers and email addresses.

The scholarship programme is aimed at expanding opportunities for qualified Katsina students to pursue medical education abroad while ensuring equitable representation from all 34 local government areas of the state.
