Efforts by the Katsina State Government to resuscitate the long-dormant Bakori Water Scheme took centre stage at a Townhall Meeting organised by Bakori Media Connect on Sunday, February 8, 2026, as the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Ahmed Muhammed Bakori, disclosed that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda is working to revive the facility under the State Water Board.
The commissioner made the revelation while outlining achievements recorded during his tenure in the former Ministry of Agriculture and in his current portfolio. He highlighted agricultural support programmes, livestock development initiatives, and interventions aimed at improving rural productivity and livelihoods, noting that the rehabilitation of the Bakori Water Scheme would significantly enhance water supply and support economic activities in the area.
Earlier in his remarks, Shehu Ibrahim Bakori, former General Manager of Katsina State Radio and former Executive Director of the Katsina State History and Culture Bureau, urged elected representatives to strengthen their communication channels with constituents. He said improved engagement would deepen public understanding of legislative responsibilities and foster trust between leaders and the electorate.
Chairman of the Board of KTRTV, Malam Ahmed Abdulkadir, commended Bakori Media Connect for convening the meeting, describing it as an important platform to educate citizens on the core duties of lawmakers. He emphasised that lawmaking and oversight functions remain the primary responsibilities of legislators, while constituency projects are ancillary and largely dependent on budgetary processes.
The Member representing Bakori in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Engr. Abdulrahman Ahmad Bakori, enumerated motions he has sponsored and appealed to constituents to formally channel their needs to him for presentation before the government. In response to questions, he disclosed that the state governor has approved the upgrade of the Bakori Primary Health Centre to a General Hospital, as well as the reconstruction of the Bakori–Guga road and several township roads. He, however, expressed concern over low school enrollment and attendance despite infrastructural improvements, calling on parents and community leaders to support efforts to increase school participation.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Bakori Local Government Council challenged youths to articulate their development priorities for the area. He expressed satisfaction with the prevailing peace, attributing it to a peace process facilitated by the local administration and stakeholders. According to him, projects have been executed across all 11 wards of the local government area, while persons with special needs have been included in governance through appointments and other opportunities.
The Member representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, was absent at the meeting but delegated his aide, Anas Jobe, who distributed a printed compendium detailing the lawmaker’s achievements to participants.
The townhall was attended by representatives of civil society organisations, members of the press, and social media users, providing a forum for dialogue on governance, development, and accountability in Bakori Local Government Area.
