The Federal Government has begun talks with Sinoma New Materials Nigeria Company Limited to explore partnership opportunities aimed at deploying innovative technologies for affordable housing delivery in Nigeria.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, disclosed this during a meeting with representatives of the company in Abuja on April 15, 2026.
Dangiwa said the proposed collaboration would focus on promoting innovation, sustainable construction methods and local manufacturing of building materials to accelerate housing delivery.
He stressed that the Federal Government’s priority is to make home ownership achievable for low- and middle-income Nigerians within their working lifetime.
“We want a situation where the average Nigerian worker can achieve home ownership with his salary within the period of his service. That is why we are particularly interested in innovation and technology that can make housing more affordable,” he said.
The Minister noted that conventional construction methods have not been sufficient to deliver housing at the scale and affordability required, particularly for middle-income earners.
While expressing openness to new technologies and materials, Dangiwa emphasised the need for practical demonstration and scalability before adoption.
“We can only fully agree with you if you have demonstrated this somewhere and delivered it at scale. People must be able to see and touch what has been built and understand its durability over time,” he said.
He also underscored the importance of speed in construction, noting that faster delivery timelines are critical to addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.
Earlier, the Chairman of Sinoma, Eric, commended the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle the housing deficit through initiatives such as the Renewed Hope Housing Programme.
He said the company’s solutions align with the government’s priorities, particularly in delivering affordable housing at scale, promoting industrialisation of construction materials and encouraging sustainability in the built environment.
The company introduced its SinoBoard Fibre Cement Technology, a prefabricated building solution designed to enable faster construction while offering durability through resistance to moisture, fire, termites and harsh weather conditions.
According to the company, the technology reduces long-term maintenance costs and supports environmentally friendly construction practices suitable for green housing initiatives.
Sinoma also expressed readiness to invest in Nigeria by establishing local manufacturing facilities, transferring technology and technical expertise, and creating employment opportunities to support the growth of the local building materials industry.
Dangiwa, in response, highlighted government plans to establish building materials manufacturing hubs across the country to boost local production and reduce construction costs.
He said companies that demonstrate effective delivery could be integrated into the planned hubs to support mass housing development.
The Minister added that the government is promoting Public–Private Partnership arrangements in the housing sector, where government provides land while private developers contribute technology, financing and construction capacity.
Under such arrangements, he said the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria could purchase completed housing units on behalf of beneficiaries and recover costs through mortgage schemes.
Dangiwa directed relevant officials of the ministry to continue engagement with the company to refine its proposal and ensure alignment with the government’s housing delivery strategy.
