FG Declares April 3 and 6 Public Holidays for Easter Celebration

Abuja, April 1, 2026 — The Federal Ministry of Interior (Nigeria) has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulating Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion.

He called on Nigerians to reflect on the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love, as exemplified by Jesus Christ, whose life and teachings underpin the Easter celebration.

Tunji-Ojo also urged citizens to remain committed to values of tolerance and unity, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence in national development.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to policies aimed at fostering national renewal, economic growth and shared prosperity.

He wished Christians across the country a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.

The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
