APC Adopts Consensus Option as Governor Radda Urges Unity Ahead of Primaries

-

KATSINA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State has adopted the consensus option for its forthcoming primaries, with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda calling on party members to uphold unity, discipline, and grassroots engagement.

The decision was announced at a stakeholders’ meeting in Katsina, where preparations for the primaries were reviewed and key committees constituted to manage the process.

Governor Radda said the adoption of consensus aligns with consultations held with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the approach would help reduce internal disputes and strengthen party cohesion.

“This approach will enhance cooperation, promote unity, and sustain our progress as a political party,” he said.

The governor cautioned aspirants against excessive spending and urged them to approach leadership with sincerity, humility, and accountability, while stressing that candidates must reflect the genuine aspirations of the people.

He also called for intensified grassroots mobilisation, urging party members to strengthen engagement at polling unit level to consolidate support across the state.

Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa

Earlier, APC State Chairman, Bashir Gambo Saulawa, confirmed that the party’s timetable for the primaries has been released and announced the constitution of committees to ensure a smooth process.

He said the Consensus and Reconciliation Committees would be chaired by former Governor Aminu Bello Masari, with Ibrahim Shehu Shema serving as co-chair.

Saulawa also disclosed the establishment of three zonal consensus committees: Katsina Zone chaired by Ibrahim Ida, Funtua Zone chaired by Tukur Ahmed Jikamshi, and Daura Zone chaired by Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, alongside an Affirmation Committee.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Nasir Yahaya Daura, Minister of Arts, Culture and Tourism Hannatu Musa Musawa, lawmakers, party leaders, and other stakeholders.
