Troops Kill Four Suspected Bandit Commanders, Recover Weapons in Katsina

-

Troops of the 17 Brigade have killed four suspected bandit commanders and recovered weapons, motorcycles, and cash during a military operation along the Turare–Yantumaki road in Katsina State.

The operation, which took place around 11:40 a.m. on Friday, followed an ambush by armed assailants on a military patrol team. According to officials, the troops responded swiftly, engaged the attackers, and neutralised all four without suffering any casualties.

Those killed were identified as Bishir Holami, Jamilu Baki, Ibrahim Doro, and Abdurraman Maje. Authorities described them as key figures linked to a series of deadly attacks in communities such as Gobirawa, Raddawa, and Kuki across Dutsinma and Matazu local government areas.

Security sources said their elimination is a significant setback to a notorious bandit network allegedly led by Muhammadu Fulani, which has been active in Matazu, Musawa, Charanchi, and Kankia areas.

Items recovered during the operation include an AK-47 rifle with a magazine and five rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, several mobile phones, and a total of ₦153,400 in cash. Some of the phones reportedly contained images of the suspects dressed in military uniforms and have been handed over for forensic analysis.

Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, said the development reflects ongoing efforts by the administration of Dikko Umaru Radda to tackle insecurity across the state.

He assured residents that security forces would sustain offensive operations until peace is fully restored, urging communities to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to support ongoing efforts.

The latest success comes amid intensified military operations targeting banditry and related crimes in parts of Katsina State.
