Bandits Abduct 15 Females, Including Infants, in Fresh Katsina Attack

-

Suspected bandits have abducted at least 15 females, including children and infants, during a late-night raid on Sabon Layi community in Kakumi Ward of Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9:45 p.m. on April 30, 2026, when a group of armed men stormed the area and targeted households belonging to a man identified as Aliyu and his younger brother.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the attackers moved swiftly, rounding up victims—mostly women and young children—before fleeing the community.

The assailants were said to have escaped through Mununu village in neighbouring Faskari Local Government Area, a route often exploited by criminal groups operating in the region.

Local security volunteers, including members of the Community Watch Corps and vigilante groups, reportedly mobilised in an attempt to rescue the victims, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Among those abducted are several minors, including toddlers and infants, highlighting the growing vulnerability of rural communities to such attacks.

This latest incident adds to a string of recent violent attacks in Bakori and surrounding areas, where residents have faced killings, abductions, and destruction of property in repeated assaults by armed groups.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from security authorities regarding the abduction, while efforts to track the perpetrators and secure the victims’ release are ongoing.

Residents have continued to call for urgent intervention by security agencies to curb the escalating insecurity in the area.
