Governor Radda Moves to Position Katsina as Cancer Treatment Hub with Advanced Imaging Hospital

-

KATSINA — Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming healthcare delivery through the construction of a state-of-the-art Advanced Imaging and Cancer Hospital in Katsina.

The project, equipped with cutting-edge technology from Siemens Healthineers, is expected to position the state as a regional hub for cancer treatment, diagnostics, and specialised medical services in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

The governor spoke while receiving a technical team from Siemens Healthineers and other partners at the Muhammadu Buhari House during ongoing project discussions.

He described the facility as a strategic investment designed to strengthen diagnostic capacity and improve cancer care, noting that access to quality healthcare remains a top priority for his administration.

“It is unacceptable that people die from preventable causes simply because they cannot afford basic healthcare services. This initiative is part of our effort to change that reality,” Radda said.

The hospital, being constructed by Submed Nigeria Limited, will feature advanced medical equipment including MRI and PET-CT scanners, adaptive radiotherapy systems, and integrated digital platforms for real-time diagnosis and treatment.

Radda explained that the project is part of broader healthcare reforms aimed at strengthening primary and secondary facilities while expanding tertiary services to reduce referrals and improve health outcomes.

He added that continuous training of healthcare workers, both locally and internationally, would be prioritised to ensure effective operation and sustainability of the centre.

The governor noted that the facility would serve not only residents of Katsina State but also patients from across Nigeria and neighbouring countries, boosting medical tourism and economic growth.

Earlier, Director of Operations at Submed, Mojisola Delumo, said the project would help bridge Nigeria’s diagnostic gap and reduce the need for medical treatment abroad.

Also speaking, Ekta Jhala, a senior official at Varian, said the centre would place Katsina at the forefront of precision radiotherapy in Sub-Saharan Africa, while Ansu Dukuray added that the integrated system would ensure seamless screening, diagnosis, and treatment.

Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu, described the initiative as a landmark in the state’s healthcare transformation, while Director of Medical Services, Bala Habibu, said the facility would significantly enhance early disease detection and medical research.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including Principal Private Secretary to the Governor Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji and other stakeholders.
