Seven Shot, Two Killed in Suspected Bandit Attack in Katsina, as Fresh Clash Leaves One Injured

-

At least two people have been confirmed dead and five others injured following a suspected bandit attack along the Guga–Turare road in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident, which occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on April 20, 2026, reportedly involved armed assailants who blocked the road and opened fire on victims.

A joint patrol team of security agents in Bakori was said to have responded swiftly after receiving distress information. On arrival, security operatives found seven victims with gunshot injuries and evacuated them to a hospital in Bakori for urgent treatment.

Sources indicated that three of the victims were admitted at the Bakori facility, while four others were referred to the General Hospital in Funtua due to the severity of their injuries.

Two victims—identified as Nura and an unidentified woman—were confirmed dead. Two others are said to be in critical condition, while the remaining victims are responding to treatment.

All the victims are believed to be residents of Kakumi, Guga, and nearby communities.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene after taking away a motorcycle and other personal belongings belonging to one of the victims.

Meanwhile, sources disclosed that a separate incident occurred last Saturday near Kakumi, involving an exchange of gunfire between suspected bandits and security operatives. One suspected bandit was reportedly killed during the confrontation, and his motorcycle was recovered.

A member of the Community Watch Corps (C-Watch) was also injured in the clash and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Katsina.

Security agencies have intensified efforts to identify the victims of the latest attack and track down those responsible. Authorities say further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.

The incidents highlight the continuing security concerns in parts of Katsina State, where rural communities remain vulnerable to attacks despite ongoing operations by security forces.
