A 23-year-old woman, Sa’adiyya Lawal Dan Salah, has allegedly attempted to kill her husband, Jamilu Ibrahim Gyaza, by stabbing him with a knife at their residence in Katsina.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of Monday, June 29, 2026, at the couple’s home in Sabuwar Unguwa, near Keyway School in Katsina metropolis.
Speaking to Katsina Times, the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim Gyaza, said they had been married for just over four months before the incident.
He alleged that shortly after their marriage, he began noticing what he described as suspicious behaviour from his wife, prompting him to confiscate and eventually destroy her mobile phone.
According to him, a few days before the attack, his wife repeatedly asked questions about his assets, including the value of his house, the property he would leave behind if he died, his retirement benefits and other personal belongings.
Jamilu further claimed that because his wife no longer had a phone, he usually allowed her to use his mobile phone to contact relatives. He said that on Sunday, she saw a large sum of money credited to his account and subsequently began asking for the Personal Identification Number (PIN) of his ATM card.
Recounting the incident, he said he noticed his wife had kept a large wrapper in the room that night but did not suspect anything unusual.
“She came into the room and asked me to adjust my sleeping position in accordance with Islamic teachings. After I did so and was drifting to sleep, I suddenly felt a knife stab my neck,” he said.
He said he immediately cried out for help, attracting the attention of his children, who rushed into the room. Despite their arrival, he alleged that his wife continued trying to stab him.
“When she realised I was still alive and people had gathered, she threw away the knife, knelt down crying and begged for forgiveness, saying she did not know what she was doing and that evil spirits had overpowered her,” he added.
The victim said the matter was reported to the police station near the Katsina Motor Park, where officers recorded statements and documented the incident. He was later taken to hospital for medical treatment, while his wife was taken into police custody.
The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
The command said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted murder before appropriate legal action is taken.
