The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated the expulsion of 11 prominent members, including former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike and former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, over allegations of anti-party activities and “gross breaches” of the party’s constitution.
The action followed the adoption of a motion titled “Motion for the Expulsion of the Following Persons from the Peoples Democratic Party for Anti-Party Activities and Gross Breaches of the Party’s Constitution”, moved during the party’s Elective National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 15–16 November 2025.
Those listed for expulsion are:

4. Hon. Umar Bature
5. Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN
6. Mohammed Abdulrahman
7. Senator Mao Ohuabunwa

10. George Turner
11. Chief Dan Orbih
According to the motion sighted at the convention, the PDP cited Articles 10(6) & 58(1)(b)(c)(f)(i)(j) & (l), and 59(1)(g) of its 2017 Constitution (as amended), which deal with disciplinary actions and offenses. The party accused the listed individuals of supporting and canvassing votes for opposition parties, among other violations.
The document emphasised that, under Articles 33(2)(1), (2)(j), (n) & (r), the National Convention possesses supreme authority over all party matters, including the discipline of members and officers. It further stressed that political parties are voluntary associations governed by clear rules, and members are expected to abide by shared principles and aspirations.
By invoking Section 40 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended), the motion argued that while members join political parties voluntarily, they are equally bound to uphold party discipline, which the PDP says the affected individuals violated.
The decision to move for their expulsion marks one of the most sweeping disciplinary actions in the party’s recent history. It remains unclear whether any of the affected members were given an opportunity to defend themselves before the motion was adopted, as no official response had been released by them at press time.
Party sources say the move signals a renewed push by the PDP to reassert internal discipline ahead of upcoming elections.
Further developments are expected as the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) considers formal ratification of the expulsion list.
