The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Radio Chapel, has commended the Katsina State Government for revitalising the Katsina State Radio Service through major infrastructure upgrades, including the installation of solar power systems and the renovation of broadcasting facilities.
The commendation followed a familiarisation visit by members of the chapel to the radio station’s headquarters in Katsina and its main transmitting station in Dutsinma.
In a statement, the chapel praised Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state-owned media, describing the interventions as a significant step towards improving public broadcasting in the state.
The union noted that the installation of solar power systems at both the Katsina headquarters and the Dutsinma station had restored stable broadcasting operations, ensuring uninterrupted transmission of programmes to audiences across Katsina State and beyond.
According to the chapel, the alternative power supply has improved operational efficiency, enabling journalists, producers and other staff to perform their duties more effectively while providing the public with timely information, education, enlightenment and entertainment.
The NUJ also applauded the extensive renovation and rehabilitation carried out at both facilities, saying the improvements had created a more conducive working environment and enhanced the station’s capacity to deliver professional broadcasting services.
The union further commended the General Manager of Katsina State Radio Service, Malam Lawal Attahiru Bakori, for what it described as his visionary leadership and commitment to repositioning the station through improved infrastructure and operational capacity.
It expressed appreciation to Governor Radda for his continued support for public institutions and efforts to promote effective communication through the state-owned media.
The chapel said the recent achievements marked a new chapter in the history of Katsina State Radio Service and would strengthen its role in information dissemination, public enlightenment, good governance and community development.
It also pledged the continued support and cooperation of its members to ensure the station maintains high standards of professionalism, credibility and public service.
