Ibadan, Nigeria – Monday

The Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists (NAH) has elected a new National Executive Committee during its 2025 Annual Conference, Exhibition, and Workshop held in Ibadan.

Geologist Abubakar Mamman Gege from Katsina State emerged as the First Vice President of the Association, marking a notable recognition for the northern region in the national leadership structure.

Mrs. Fashe Adam was elected as the President, while Professor F. Ariyo clinched the position of Second Vice President. Other elected officers include Engr. J. M. Abdulkadir as Secretary General, Dr. Ben Owope as Assistant Secretary General, Mrs. Helen Onaji as Financial Secretary, and Mr. Israel Oyeyinwa as Organising Secretary.

Also elected were Associate Professor Aisha A. Kanah as Editor-in-Chief of the Association’s annual magazine, Mallam Abdullahi Moisule as Auditor, and Mallam Sadi Abdullahi Hamza as Publicity Secretary.

The Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists, a professional body dedicated to the advancement of hydrogeology in the country, promotes the sustainable development and equitable management of Nigeria’s water resources—particularly groundwater.

With a membership strength of over 2,000 professionals, the Association is committed to upholding professionalism, ethics, and best practices in the field. It is affiliated with the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) and operates as a specialist group within the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS).

Hydrogeology and related geoscience practices in Nigeria are regulated by the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG), established under Act No. 40 of 1990, which mandates all practitioners to register with the Council.

The Association also publishes the “Water Resources Journal,” an annual scholarly publication that features research articles on hydrogeology, engineering geology, and water resources management.
