Katsina, Nigeria — The National Association of Bakori Local Government Students has concluded plans to host a major programme aimed at celebrating the contributions of women and promoting the development of the girl child in Bakori Local Government Area.
The Secretary General of the association, Imamu Abubakar Bakori, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to a media stakeholder, Malam Ahmed Abdulkadir, in Katsina, where he also extended an invitation to attend the event and sought professional input on its organisation.
According to him, the programme is one of the final activities of the current NABALS leadership before the transition to a new administration. He described it as a reflective gathering — “Adon Tafiya” — designed to honour and document the contributions of women in the development of Bakori Local Government Area.
The event will spotlight women who have made significant impacts in key sectors, including education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and politics. It is also expected to serve as a source of inspiration and mentorship for younger generations of girls.
As part of the programme, NABALS will host a Girls Child Initiative, which focuses on improving access to education, health awareness, and self-reliance among girls. The initiative is expected to be implemented in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment programme.
Participants will include female students drawn from selected secondary schools across the eleven wards of Bakori Local Government Area, alongside principals of girls’ secondary schools. The organisers have also lined up retired female teachers and healthcare professionals as special guests, in recognition of their past contributions to education and public health.
Activities scheduled for the event include paper presentations on educational development, health awareness, and self-reliance for girls; a panel discussion featuring retired and serving professionals as well as students; and the presentation of honorary awards to distinguished retired teachers and health personnel.
A major highlight of the programme will be the official launch of the Girls Child Initiative Foundation, which is intended to sustain future interventions and programmes targeted at empowering girls in the area.
The wife of the Chairman of Bakori Local Government is expected to serve as the chief host of the event, with other key stakeholders from within and outside the locality also billed to attend.
Organisers say the event will be open to the public, although special invitations will be issued to dignitaries. They also welcomed suggestions and constructive feedback from stakeholders to ensure the success of the programme.
NABALS President, Abba Suleiman Bakori, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to initiatives that promote education, social development, and community engagement among youths in Bakori.
