LAGOS — Residents in the Alagbado area of Lagos State have reacted with shock and anger after several police officers were arrested for their alleged role in a shooting that killed two innocent passersby during an operation on Friday, according to Crime Channels.

The Lagos Police Command confirmed the officers were apprehended after gunshots were discharged while they were reportedly pursuing suspected criminals in the Alagbado neighborhood. The incident, which left two civilians dead, has stirred concern among local residents, prompting community members to call for accountability and better police conduct.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said in a post on X that the officers had been taken into custody pending a thorough investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh. Adebisi also stated that additional personnel were deployed to prevent public disorder and that normalcy had returned to the area.

Residents who spoke with journalists and social media users described the killing as “unacceptable” and called for justice for the victims, highlighting long-standing frustrations with police operations in their community. While some urged calm and cooperation with the investigation, others expressed fear and anger over the loss of innocent lives. (Additional sources)

One resident, who asked not to be named, said the community was “devastated and worried about our safety,” adding that ordinary people should not be caught in the crossfire of enforcement actions. Others used social platforms to demand “real reforms in police engagement rules and transparency.” (Social Media reaction)

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served and that the outcome of the investigation will be made public once completed, but many in Alagbado want clearer answers on how the tragic incident occurred.
