KYCV Restores Nine Government Vehicles, Saves Costs Through In-House Repairs

-

The Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV) has rehabilitated and upgraded nine government-owned vehicles through its Central Mechanical Workshop, a move aimed at enhancing asset management and reducing maintenance costs for the state government.

Coordinator of the Katsina Youth Craft Village, Engr. Kabir Abdullahi Kofar Soro, said the initiative reflects the Katsina State Government’s commitment to efficient use of public resources and cost-saving measures through in-house technical capacity.

According to him, two Toyota Hilux vans manufactured in 2008 were fully refurbished and upgraded to meet 2024 operational standards. He explained that the work involved comprehensive mechanical, electrical and bodywork improvements, significantly extending the vehicles’ service life while ensuring compliance with current performance and safety requirements.

Engr. Kofar Soro also disclosed that a Mercedes-Benz 911 truck has been converted into a fully functional mobile workshop. He said the mobile unit is designed to provide on-the-spot mechanical support, maintenance and rapid response services, especially for field operations, thereby reducing downtime and delays in the execution of government projects.

He noted that the rehabilitation of the vehicles highlights the strategic role of the Central Mechanical Workshop in supporting government operations, adding that reliance on external contractors has been reduced, resulting in substantial savings for the state.

The Coordinator emphasized that the initiative demonstrates prudent management of public assets and reinforces the importance of strengthening local technical capacity within government institutions.
