The Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has presented letters of appointment to newly recruited academic and non-academic staff, as well as admission letters to students of the newly established Model Secondary Schools in Radda, Dumurkul and Jikamshi.
The presentation ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Radda Special School Assembly Hall, marked another step in the state government’s education reform programme under the administration of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, aimed at improving access to quality secondary education.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, congratulated the beneficiaries and described the establishment of the model schools as a strategic investment in the future of Katsina State. He urged the newly appointed staff to uphold professionalism, discipline and teamwork, stressing that their recruitment was strictly merit-based.
Hon. Jibia said the success of the model schools would depend largely on the commitment and competence of the staff, whom he described as pioneers expected to set high academic and administrative standards. He explained that the schools were designed to serve as centres of excellence and benchmarks for other public secondary schools in the state.
The commissioner disclosed that students admitted into the model schools were selected from public schools across all the 360 political wards of Katsina State, noting that the process was intended to ensure equity, fairness and equal educational opportunities irrespective of location or background.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Radda to repositioning the education sector, revealing that the 2026 budget makes provision for the renovation of 74 senior and junior secondary schools across the state, in addition to other basic education interventions.
Earlier, in a welcome address, the Chief Consultant of Hallmark Consultancy Firm, Hajiya Zainab Bugaje Jika, said the establishment of the model schools reflected the governor’s vision for special schools tailored to meet diverse learning needs. She explained that students were selected through competitive entrance examinations, while teachers were recruited through public advertisements, an online application portal, computer-based tests and physical interviews.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Teachers Service Board, Alhaji Sada Ibrahim (Chigarin Dutsinma), charged the newly employed teachers to give their best in advancing the education goals of the state government and assured them of the board’s support in terms of welfare and professional development. 
Bare-Barin Radda, Alhaji Kabir Umar Bare-Bari
On behalf of the host community, the Bare-Bari of Radda, Alhaji Kabir Umar Bare-Bari, thanked the state government for establishing a model secondary school in the town, describing the project as a source of pride and urging teachers to integrate well with the community.
In his vote of thanks, the Principal of Radda Model Special School, Dr. Lawal Shehu, described the occasion as historic, disclosing that over 250 staff had received appointment letters to serve in the new schools. He pledged the commitment of the staff to justify the confidence reposed in them and commended the transparent and merit-based recruitment process.
The ceremony ended with prayers for the success of the initiative and the safe return of participants. Dignitaries at the event included the Special Adviser on Education, Hon. Nura Saleh Katsayal; the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Hajiya Ummulkhair Ahmed Bawa Faskari; the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Kabir Magaji Gafiya; and other senior government officials.
