Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, on Tuesday inaugurated a Ramadan support package for 1,000 vulnerable women in the state, pledging ₦5 million to strengthen the initiative of the Grassroots Charity Humanitarian Foundation.
The programme, spearheaded by Hajiya Nasiba Umar, was launched at the Conference Hall of the Service to Humanity Foundation in Katsina as part of efforts to ease economic hardship ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
Under the scheme, each beneficiary is to receive 10 kilograms of millet and ₦5,000 in cash to cushion the impact of rising living costs during the fasting period.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda announced a ₦5 million donation to complement an equal amount earlier committed by the foundation, bringing the total support for the intervention to ₦10 million.
“We are committed to ensuring that vulnerable women in Katsina can celebrate Ramadan with dignity,” the governor said.
He further disclosed that the state government has established strategic feeding centres across Katsina to provide breakfast meals throughout Ramadan to ensure that residents, particularly the less privileged, do not go hungry during the fasting period.
Governor Radda commended Hajiya Nasiba Umar for her humanitarian efforts, describing her commitment to supporting women and vulnerable groups as exemplary. He noted that the initiative demonstrates the impact private charity can achieve when aligned with government support.

In her remarks, Hajiya Nasiba Umar said the intervention was designed to cushion economic hardship faced by women during Ramadan. She described the programme as the second of its kind in recent times and pledged to continue deploying available resources to assist less-privileged women across the state.
She also expressed appreciation to the governor for his continued support, stressing that collaboration between government and private initiatives remains crucial in addressing social challenges.
The event was attended by senior government officials, including the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahya Daura; the Deputy Speaker, Abduljalal Haruna Runka; and members of the State Executive Council.
