Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved the release of over ₦21 billion for the payment of retirement and death gratuities to workers of the state, local governments and the Local Education Authorities.
The approval was announced on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, who said the funds were released to address outstanding gratuities and improve the welfare of retired workers and the families of deceased employees.
Dr. Zango explained that the ₦21 billion intervention would cover all unpaid retirement and death benefits owed between September 2023 and October 2025.
He noted that out of the total sum, ₦7.7 billion approved for former state civil servants would be paid as a one-off disbursement in December 2025. According to him, over ₦14 billion approved for retirees from local governments and the Local Education Authorities would be paid in tranches over a four-month period, from December 2025 to March 2026.
The commissioner added that the disbursement process would be coordinated by a committee set up by the state government to ensure transparency and orderly payment to beneficiaries.
Dr. Zango recalled that Governor Radda had earlier approved the release of over ₦23 billion to settle outstanding retirement and death benefits accrued between January 2019 and August 2023.
He said the latest approval reflects the commitment of the Radda administration to clearing inherited backlogs and safeguarding the welfare of workers, both in service and in retirement.
