The Katsina State Executive Council has approved a series of major policy, infrastructure, and reform initiatives aimed at strengthening education, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and economic growth across the state.
The approvals were made at the Council’s first meeting of 2026, held on Wednesday, January 14, under the chairmanship of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Strategy, M.S. Ingawa, the Council said it endorsed the implementation of recommendations of a committee that reviewed private tertiary institutions offering NCE and Diploma programmes, as part of efforts to improve quality assurance and raise academic standards in the state.
The Council also approved the procurement of start-up tools for 1,169 beneficiaries who completed a joint vocational skills acquisition programme organised by the Katsina State Economic Development Agency (KASEDA) in collaboration with the National Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), to promote youth empowerment and self-reliance.
In the education sector, contracts were approved for the completion of outstanding construction works at the Special Schools in Jikamshi and Dumurkul. The projects were initiated under the AGILE programme but were stalled due to funding challenges.
To enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots, the Executive Council approved the provision of motorised boreholes in 68 primary healthcare centres, alongside the procurement of 68 tricycle ambulances for rehabilitated health facilities across the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.
The Council further approved contracts for the supply of spare parts for tractors and operational vehicles under the Katsina State agricultural development programme, aimed at ensuring the functionality and durability of farming equipment.
As part of ongoing public service reforms, the Council adopted the White Paper on the report of the committee that screened local government staff in the 34 LGAs, describing the move as a key step towards sanitising and strengthening the local government system.
In a bid to improve transparency and efficiency, the Council also approved the review and modernisation of government procurement processes, from tender invitation to contract approval, to reduce delays and curb corruption.
The meeting further endorsed the enforcement of the Katsina State Green Public Procurement Executive Order across all government contracts, in line with the administration’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
In the commercial sector, the Council approved the commencement of projects to upgrade Dandume Market in Funtua Zone, Jibia Market in Katsina Zone, and Mashi Market in Daura Zone into modern markets. It also approved the construction of a new modern market in Daura to boost commercial activities and improve livelihoods.
According to the SSA, the resolutions reached at the meeting reaffirm the Katsina State Government’s determination to deliver good governance, sustainable development, and inclusive economic growth for the people of the state.
