Kano Governor Yusuf Poised to Present First-Ever ₦1 Trillion Budget for 2026

-

Kano, Nigeria – November 14, 2025

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, says his administration is set to present a landmark ₦1 trillion budget for the 2026 financial year — the first time any Northern Nigerian state will be proposing a budget of such magnitude.

The development was announced in a statement issued Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf disclosed the plan while declaring open the Second Special Executive Council Meeting convened to review and finalise the 2026 budget proposals ahead of its formal presentation to the Kano State House of Assembly next week.

He described the proposed trillion-naira budget as a reflection of his administration’s determination to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects, drive urban renewal, and expand socio-economic development across the state.

Governor Yusuf attributed the significant increase in the 2026 budget size to improved internally generated revenue (IGR) and the blocking of financial leakages within government operations.

“Our administration has strengthened internal revenue mechanisms and sealed leakages, which now allows us to plan boldly for transformative projects in 2026,” he said.

The governor noted that the budget will prioritise key sectors including housing development, agriculture, education, healthcare, and support for small and medium enterprises — all geared toward stimulating economic growth and providing sustainable livelihoods for Kano residents.

Once finalized, the proposed budget will be transmitted to the state House of Assembly for legislative consideration and approval.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and equitable distribution of resources across all sectors to ensure that citizens benefit from quality public services.

The proposed ₦1 trillion budget, if presented as planned, will stand as the largest ever by any Northern state in Nigeria.
