Engr. Kabiru el-Hussain Rumah, popularly known as Jakadan Rumah, has congratulated Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Raɗɗa, on the reported increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from ₦600 million to over ₦3 billion monthly.
Rumah attributed the revenue growth partly to the administration’s employment drive, implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage, urban renewal projects and reforms in tax administration.
In a congratulatory message, Rumah said the reported increase represented a fivefold rise in monthly revenue, which could strengthen the state’s capacity to finance development projects, improve public services and reduce dependence on federal allocations.
He explained that the employment of more than 10,000 workers under the Raɗɗa administration, alongside the implementation of the new minimum wage in 2024, could have contributed to increased Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax collections.
According to him, higher taxable salaries and an expanded workforce can boost personal income tax revenue, subject to applicable tax regulations.
Rumah also identified the administration’s urban renewal programme and other infrastructure projects as potential contributors to the increase through withholding taxes deducted from qualifying contract payments and remitted to the appropriate revenue authorities.
He further credited reforms in tax administration, including the introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), deployment of modern technology, improved tax compliance and recovery of outstanding tax liabilities, with helping to strengthen revenue mobilisation and reduce financial leakages.
The founder of the Jakadan Rumah Foundation urged the state government and relevant revenue authorities to sustain the reforms, broaden the revenue base fairly and strengthen transparency and accountability in public financial management.
He stressed that increased revenue should translate into tangible improvements in roads, healthcare, education, security and other essential services for the people of Katsina State.
While congratulating Governor Raɗɗa on the reported fiscal achievement, Rumah expressed the hope that continued growth in internally generated revenue would promote economic opportunities, sustainable development and an improved quality of life for residents.
