The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has directed the speedy completion of the 1,550-unit Nigerian Army Housing Project in Abuja, with a target for commissioning by the end of March or the first week of April.
The directive follows an instruction by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the project be delivered within the next two to three months as part of efforts to enhance the welfare and operational effectiveness of military personnel.
Dangiwa gave the charge during an inspection tour of the estate, describing the housing scheme as a special presidential intervention under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme. He said the project aligns with the administration’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises infrastructure development, support for the security sector and improved welfare for public servants.
The estate comprises one-, two- and three-bedroom bungalows and is being constructed by Brains and Hammers, an estate development company. According to the Minister, the initiative seeks to revive the traditional barracks system by providing secure, well-planned residential communities that will enable members of the Armed Forces to discharge their duties effectively.
He noted that the housing estate is designed as a fully integrated residential community with essential infrastructure and facilities, including fully tarred internal roads, religious centres, a shopping mall, sports facilities, an officers’ mess, a clinic, schools and a fire service station.
Dangiwa also disclosed that a 6.5-kilometre dualised access road linking the estate to the Kubwa Highway is under construction by the same contractor. He said the road project has significantly improved connectivity to the area and stimulated private development in the surrounding corridor.
“The access road has opened up the entire location. Developers are already springing up with their own construction in their various locations, and the project has progressed tremendously both internally and externally, including landscaping, roads, water and electricity installations,” the Minister said.
He added that the project is being jointly implemented by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), alongside other supervising agencies.
A representative of Brains and Hammers expressed confidence that the delivery timeline would be met and commended the Minister for his support, stating that the project would be completed by the end of March or early April.
The inspection team included the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and other senior officials.
