Governor Radda Flags Off ₦18.5bn Sabuwa to Tashar-Bawa to Rafin-Iwa Road Project

-

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has launched the construction of the 27.642km Sabuwa to Tashar-Bawa to Rafin-Iwa Asphalt Concrete Road, a project valued at ₦18.5 billion and expected to be completed within 18 months.

The flag-off, conducted on Friday as part of the Governor’s ongoing Statewide Engagement Tour across the 34 local government areas, marks what he described as a significant stride toward improving rural connectivity and addressing long-standing infrastructural deficits in the state.

Governor Radda said the new road would open up agrarian communities in the Sabuwa axis, enhance the movement of farm produce, and boost economic activities across the corridor.

“For decades, this stretch has remained a virgin and difficult terrain, restricting movement and limiting market access. Today, we are changing that narrative for the people of Sabuwa and neighbouring communities,” he said.

The Governor disclosed that the contract had been awarded to Fullman Nigeria Limited, adding that 40% of the contract sum had already been released to ensure immediate mobilisation and prevent delays.

He also assured residents that compensation for affected lands, farms, and properties would be handled fairly and promptly. Governor Radda reiterated that the project fulfils a campaign promise to provide an all-season road for communities in Sabuwa LGA.

The Governor warned that the state government would strictly monitor the contractor and consultant—Fullman Nigeria Limited and ATS Multi Concept World Wide Ltd—to ensure compliance with engineering standards and timelines.

“This project is more than a road; it is a message of hope and progress for the people of Sabuwa,” he said.

The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Dr Sani Magaji Ingawa, described the initiative as a bold step towards rural transformation. He noted that the virgin road would improve security, ease agricultural transportation, and accelerate socio-economic growth.

He said the commencement of the project demonstrates the administration’s commitment to rural development and to honouring campaign pledges. Ingawa urged residents to cooperate with the contractor and safeguard the project environment.

Chairman of Fullman Group, A. A. AlBasu, thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in the company. He pledged to deliver quality work ahead of schedule, noting that the project is personal to him as a native of Sabuwa.

Similarly, the Member representing Sabuwa in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Dan Jibo, commended Governor Radda for keeping his word. He said Sabuwa communities had already felt the impact of the administration’s development projects.

Sabuwa LGA Chairman, Engr. Sagir, expressed gratitude on behalf of residents, affirming community support for the project.

The event was attended by senior government officials, including Senator Muntari Mohammed Dandutse; Hon. Dalhatu Shehu Tafoki; Chief of Staff Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; former Deputy Governor Sirajo Umar Dammari; AUDA-NEPAD National Coordinator, Hon. Salisu Jabiru Tsauri; Hon. Yusuf Majigiri; APC State Chairman, Salisu JB Daura; among others.
