Governor Radda Commissions Funtua Roads, Flags Off 29 Township Road Projects in Bakori, Malumfashi

-

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, on Tuesday commissioned newly reconstructed dualised roads in Funtua and flagged off the construction of 29 township roads in Bakori and Malumfashi, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to expanding modern infrastructure across the state under the Building Your Future agenda.

The projects include the commissioning of the reconstructed and dualised 3.9-kilometre Funtua–Katsina Road and the upgraded 1.2-kilometre Tsohuwar Kasuwa Road, as well as the commencement of nine township roads in Bakori and 20 township roads in Malumfashi, all to be fitted with solar-powered street lights.

Speaking during the ceremonies, Governor Radda described the projects as strategic investments aimed at improving transportation, stimulating economic growth, enhancing security and raising the quality of life of residents.

He said the reconstructed Funtua–Katsina Road, completed at a cost of ₦5.8 billion, and the 1.2-kilometre Tsohuwar Kasuwa Road, which cost ₦637 million, would ease traffic, improve road safety and support commercial activities in the area.

“These projects demonstrate our commitment to providing durable infrastructure that stimulates economic activities, improves mobility, reduces travel time and enhances road safety. Every completed project brings us closer to the modern and prosperous Katsina State we envision,” the governor said.

Governor Radda noted that the roads, executed by Mothercat Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, form part of the Urban Renewal Programme being implemented across the Katsina, Daura and Funtua Senatorial Districts.

Later in Bakori, the governor flagged off the construction of nine township roads covering 6.6 kilometres at a cost of ₦6.1 billion.

He said the project would address long-standing transportation challenges, particularly during the rainy season, while improving accessibility, supporting businesses and strengthening security through the installation of solar-powered street lights.

The Bakori roads include Jare Earth Dam Road (Hanyar Unguwar Yanlambu), Government Day Road (Hanyar Government Day zuwa Unguwar Ma’aru), Makama Road (Unguwar Yar’yara), Danja Road (Layin Filin Haya zuwa Makabarta), Kwakina Road (Layin Jantiti), Danmaliki Road (Layin Danmaliki), Barde Road (Layin Gidan Talba), Kahutu Road (Layin Gidan Ado Chairman) and Kakumi Road (Layin Gidan Bello Sanata).

“Development must not be concentrated in only a few places. Every community in Katsina State deserves quality infrastructure and equal opportunities for growth,” Governor Radda said.

The governor concluded his tour in Malumfashi, where he inaugurated the construction of 20 township roads spanning 10.7 kilometres at a cost of ₦10.2 billion.

He described the project as a strategic investment that would improve mobility, support businesses, expand access to schools and healthcare facilities, create employment opportunities and increase property values.

“This project goes beyond road construction. It is an investment in the future of our communities by creating an environment where businesses can thrive and development can flourish,” he said.

Governor Radda urged residents in both Bakori and Malumfashi to cooperate with the contractors and engineers to ensure timely completion of the projects, stressing that community support was essential to their success.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, said the projects reflected the administration’s determination to provide durable infrastructure that promotes economic growth and improves living standards across the state.

He explained that the Funtua projects were constructed to the highest engineering standards with asphaltic concrete pavement and modern solar-powered street lighting, while work on the Sokoto Road project in Funtua was progressing steadily and would be completed before the end of the year.

In Bakori and Malumfashi, the commissioner said the township road projects would improve connectivity, reduce travel time, support trade and attract investment while enhancing public safety through modern street lighting.

Speaking at the separate events, the Senator representing Katsina South, Senator Muntari Dandutse, APC State Chairman, Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa, Chairman of Bakori Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Musa Barde, District Head of Bakori, Alhaji Garba Tukur Idris, Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government, Hon. Muntari Abdullahi, and the District Head of Malumfashi, Justice Saddik Abdullahi Mahuta (rtd), commended Governor Radda for the infrastructure projects and pledged the support of their communities for their successful execution.
