The Chairman of the Katsina State Radio and Television Service (KTRTV) Board, Malam Ahmed Abdulkadir, has commended Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda for what he described as a responsive and sustained commitment to the digitisation and modernisation of the state-owned television station, KTTV.
The commendation follows a recent announcement by Katsina State Television highlighting ongoing efforts by the state government to upgrade the station’s facilities and improve its broadcasting capacity.
Speaking in reaction to the development, the Board Chairman noted that the progress being recorded aligns with the Board’s consistent recommendations to government on the need to reposition KTTV to meet modern broadcasting standards.
He said the current administration has demonstrated clear political will by approving critical interventions, including the procurement of digital transmission equipment, which is expected to significantly enhance the station’s output and reach.
The development builds on deliberations at the recent KTRTV Board meeting, where members acknowledged the approval of digital equipment for KTTV as a major milestone in the station’s transformation process.
At the same meeting, the Board also commended the state government for similar interventions at the Katsina State Radio, particularly the installation of solar power systems at the headquarters and the Dutsinma Transmission Station. The project has already improved operational efficiency, increasing transmission hours from six to fifteen daily.
The Board had noted that these investments reflect a broader strategy by the government to strengthen public broadcasting in the state through infrastructure renewal, improved service delivery, and expanded audience reach.
Malam Abdulkadir reiterated that the ongoing upgrade of KTTV, alongside the planned establishment of an FM radio station, would position the state’s broadcast media to compete more effectively in an increasingly digital and competitive environment.
He assured that the Board would continue to provide guidance and oversight to ensure that the investments translate into tangible improvements in content quality, professionalism, and public engagement.
The Chairman, however, stressed the need to complement infrastructure upgrades with adequate human resource development, noting that both KTTV and the state radio station continue to face shortages of experienced personnel due to retirements.
He expressed optimism that with sustained government support and implementation of the Board’s recommendations, KTRTV would emerge as a model public broadcasting service in the country.
