Governor Radda Approves Additional ₦10m Empowerment Support for 1,000 Women, Orphans in Katsina

-

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved an additional ₦10 million empowerment support for 1,000 women, orphans and other vulnerable persons in Katsina Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen livelihoods and support women-led businesses.

The governor announced the intervention on Wednesday while flagging off the distribution of empowerment support at the Multipurpose Women Centre, Filin Samji, Katsina. The latest support complements an earlier ₦10 million initiative by the Founder of the Grassroots Charitable and Humanity Foundation, Hajiya Nasiba Umar.

Governor Radda described the initiative as a practical demonstration of compassion and community-driven development, commending Hajiya Nasiba for her commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups.

He said the empowerment programme was not just about financial assistance but about restoring dignity, creating opportunities and giving hope to disadvantaged households.

The governor recalled that Hajiya Nasiba herself had once benefited from empowerment support and has now chosen to give back to society, describing the gesture as a “circle of kindness” that the state government encourages.

He urged beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously to grow their small businesses, achieve self-reliance and eventually support others within their communities.

Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to women’s welfare, inclusive development and partnerships that deliver direct benefits to vulnerable groups across the state.

Katsina Local Government Chairman, Isah Miqdad

Earlier, the Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Hon. Isah Miqdad, pledged the council’s support for the initiative and expressed readiness to collaborate on similar programmes in the future, while commending the beneficiaries for appreciating people-oriented governance.

Speaking at the event, Hajiya Nasiba Umar said the Grassroots Charitable and Humanity Foundation, established in 2018, focuses on supporting orphans, vulnerable persons and individuals facing mental health challenges.

She disclosed that each of the 1,000 beneficiaries would receive ₦10,000, explaining that her motivation was rooted in her personal experience as an orphan and a former empowerment beneficiary.

Hajiya Nasiba also revealed that the foundation has undertaken several humanitarian interventions, including the rehabilitation of orphanage homes and mosques.

Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Albaba

Also speaking, the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Albaba, stressed the need for stronger collaboration between government and private organisations to address the economic challenges faced by women, noting that women empowerment has far-reaching benefits for families and communities.

In a goodwill message, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi, commended the initiative and highlighted the critical role of women in promoting justice, peace and social cohesion in the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
