Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved the procurement of 30 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to enhance public transportation and ease mobility challenges across the state.
The governor disclosed this on Tuesday at the Government House in Katsina while responding to requests made by the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Professor Muhammad Khalid Uthman, during a courtesy visit.
Governor Radda said the initiative was part of his administration’s broader effort to provide affordable, safe and reliable transportation, with particular attention to the needs of students and daily commuters in major towns.
He explained that the buses would be strategically deployed to key locations, including Daura, Malumfashi, Funtua and Dutsinma, to reduce transportation costs and ease congestion. According to him, each bus has the capacity to carry up to 100 passengers, a move expected to significantly lessen the transportation burden on students of Federal University Dutsinma and members of the public.
The governor noted that transportation remained a critical component of his development agenda, stressing that access to reliable mobility should not hinder students’ pursuit of education.

Responding to a separate request from the Vice-Chancellor, Governor Radda assured that a tractor would be made available to the university upon completion of the required procedures, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting higher institutions and improving student welfare.
Earlier, Professor Uthman had appealed for government support to address mobility and infrastructural needs affecting students. He commended Governor Radda for what he described as a consistent commitment to student welfare, noting that the approval of the buses would greatly enhance movement and access to academic activities.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari; the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; the Commissioner for Higher and Vocational Technical Education, Hon. Adnan Nahabu; and members of the management of the Federal University Dutsinma.
