The Galadiman Daura and District Head of Mai’adua, Engr. Ahmadu Diddiri Ahmed, received an unprecedented hero’s welcome from hundreds of jubilant youths upon his return from the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, in a rare public demonstration of appreciation for his style of leadership.
The traditional ruler, who was among the passengers on the last return flight that brought officials of the Katsina State 2026 Hajj Delegation back home from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was met with a colourful procession shortly after arriving in his hometown.
The enthusiastic youths organized what many described as a mini-durbar, complete with procession of cars, singing, drumming and jubilant chants, catching the District Head completely by surprise.
According to residents, the reception was carefully planned without his knowledge as a token of gratitude for his humility, accessibility and commitment to the welfare of his people.
The Galadiman Daura represented the Daura Emirate Council in the 11-member 2026 Katsina State Hajj Delegation headed by the Amirul Hajj, Barrister Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq.
His reception has since attracted admiration from many observers, who described it as a reflection of the strong bond he enjoys with his subjects.
Those who interacted closely with him during the pilgrimage said the warm reception did not come as a surprise.
Unlike the stereotypical image of many traditional rulers, Engr. Ahmadu Diddiri Ahmed combines traditional authority with an impressive academic background. Before ascending the traditional stool, he was a lecturer in Agricultural Engineering at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, where he built a reputation as an accomplished academic.
Throughout the Hajj exercise, he shared accommodation with fellow members of the Government Delegation in Madinah, Makkah, Mina and Arafat. Despite his royal status, he related with everyone as an equal, displaying remarkable humility and simplicity that endeared him to colleagues.
Beyond official assignments, the District Head is known for his intellectual curiosity. During his leisure hours, he often engaged in discussions on comparative religion, particularly Islam and Christianity. Friends say he is an ardent follower of the late Ahmed Deedat and Zakir Naik, whose lectures inspired his deep interest in interfaith dialogue.
His passion for the subject has also found expression on YouTube, where his contributions to comparative religious discussions have frequently generated lively debates and attracted tens of comments from viewers.
Colleagues also recalled being impressed by his physical endurance during the pilgrimage.
Despite his age, the traditional ruler completed the physically demanding Tawaf and Sa’y rites with remarkable stamina, matching the pace of much younger pilgrims throughout the exercise.
For members of the 2026 Hajj Delegation, however, perhaps his greatest quality was neither his academic achievements nor his royal title, but his modesty.
As one delegate remarked after witnessing the spontaneous celebration in Mai’adua, the reception was a fitting reward for a leader who chose humility over status and service over privilege.
