The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) has selected the Amirul Hajj of Katsina State, Alhaji Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq, for its 2026 Amirul Hajj of the Year Award in recognition of his leadership during the 2026 Hajj exercise.
IHR announced the award in a letter dated August 3, 2026, addressed to El-Marzuq, saying the decision followed a comprehensive assessment of the 2026 Hajj operations.
According to the organisation, its independent monitoring team evaluated the performance and conduct of State Pilgrims Welfare Boards and their officials throughout the Hajj exercise in both Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
It said El-Marzuq was selected for his “exceptional leadership qualities” during the 2026 Hajj exercise.
The award is scheduled to be presented at the 2026 Independent Hajj Reporters Annual Lecture and Awards Ceremony, billed for Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Auditorium of the National Mosque, Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
IHR requested El-Marzuq’s formal confirmation of acceptance and expressed its expectation of welcoming him to the ceremony.
The recognition comes after El-Marzuq led the Katsina State Hajj delegation during the 2026 pilgrimage, where the welfare and coordination of pilgrims featured prominently in the activities of the delegation.
IHR, an organisation focused on monitoring and reporting Hajj operations, said the award was part of its effort to celebrate excellence in Hajj administration and service delivery.
