The Chairman of Bakori Local Government Council, Abubakar Musa Barde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and cautioned social media users against spreading fake news and negative publicity capable of undermining peace and development in the area.

Speaking at the Bakori Media Connect IV, Barde said politics thrives on inclusion, not exclusion, stressing that youths must actively participate in political processes to shape governance outcomes. Addressing concerns raised by a Christian minority representative during a panel session over alleged marginalisation, the council chairman disclosed that his administration has appointed six Christian Special Assistants and included several others as members of key committees, describing the move as evidence of his commitment to fairness and representation.
Barde also revealed that Senator Muntari Dandutse, representing Katsina South Senatorial District, has pledged to construct an ICT Centre in Bakori to enhance digital skills among youths. He listed other interventions by the council, including medical support for 13 residents and the construction of several dispensaries, while identifying insecurity as the most pressing challenge facing the local government. He appealed to residents to offer guidance and constructive advice to leaders, rather than “demarketing” the local government through misinformation and unverified reports on social media.
Malam Ahmed Abdulkadir
Earlier, Chairman of the Occasion, Malam Ahmed Abdulkadir, Board Chairman of the Katsina State Radio and Television Services, warned against irresponsible media use, noting that careless words, headlines and online posts could inflame tensions. He drew lessons from history, including the role of hate broadcasting in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and urged journalists and social media users to deploy their platforms for accuracy, dialogue and social cohesion.
Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim Bakori
Delivering the lead paper titled “Politics Without Enmity (Siyasa Ba da Gaba ba)”, Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim Bakori, former General Manager, Katsina State Radio, called for issue-based politics rooted in civility and service rather than hostility. He urged youths to engage constructively in politics and challenged political actors to respect differences, warning that manipulation of religion and ethnicity undermines peace and development.

Another paper, “Fahimtar Juna ta Fuskar Addini da Zamantakewa Shine Tushen Zaman Lafiya”, was presented by Hon. Abubakar Shuaibu Bakori Solo. The paper underscored interfaith and social understanding as the bedrock of sustainable peace, citing religious teachings that promote justice, compassion and reconciliation. It identified drivers of conflict—such as ignorance, injustice, poverty, misinformation and poor leadership—and recommended education, dialogue, good governance and adherence to the rule of law as pathways to harmony.
In his address, Chairman of Bakori Media Connect Foundation, Abdullahi Sulaiman Bakori, highlighted the organisation’s achievements, announcing that the foundation has been registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and has opened a bank account. He said the foundation has trained 136 youths on entrepreneurial mindset, business idea development and mini-importation; trained youths—especially women—on smart agriculture, providing them with a variety of seedlings; and organised a workshop for 150 youths on “Government, Social Media and the Law.”

Bakori also disclosed that the foundation facilitated scholarships for 22 talented youths from across Bakori Local Government to pursue Diploma programmes in agriculture at the Levantis Foundation, Albasu, Kano. He said the beneficiaries have graduated, with the convocation ceremony held on 12 December 2025, attended by the Bakori council chairman and councillors, representatives of a member of the House of Representatives, and the leadership of Bakori Media Connect Foundation.
The event featured a panel of discussants from diverse backgrounds, reinforcing the programme’s theme—“Girmama Fahimtar Juna Ta Fuskar Addini, Siyasa Da Zamantakewa Shine Tushen Zaman Lafiya”—and a shared resolve to promote peaceful coexistence, inclusive governance and responsible communication in Bakori and beyond.
