ACF Katsina Chapter Overcomes Leadership Dispute, Secures Recognition

-

The Katsina State Chapter of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) says it has overcome initial leadership and recognition challenges following its formal establishment in September 2021.

In a situation report dated January 28, 2026, the chapter disclosed that it was inaugurated with the aim of uniting the diverse peoples of Northern Nigeria for collective wellbeing, unity, and progress. At the time of its creation, the Deputy Chairman of the ACF National Body, Senator (Wazirin Katsina) Dr. Ibrahim M. Ida, emphasized that the Forum is not funded by any individual, group, or special interest, but operates solely to advance the region’s common interests.

The chapter explained that its affairs were initially overseen by an Interim Committee, which successfully conducted elections that ushered in the current Executive Committee (EXCO). The newly elected leadership was subsequently sworn in in line with the ACF Constitution and guidelines, with the Interim Committee formally handing over responsibilities.

However, the EXCO faced early challenges, including a dispute over recognition by the National Body. The issue stemmed from the actions of a dissenting individual who allegedly submitted a separate list of officers as the chapter’s leadership. The matter was later resolved, with the National Body granting official recognition to the duly elected EXCO.

According to the report, the recognition was attributed to the transparency and adherence to due process that characterized the election of the current leadership.

The chapter also confirmed that the Katsina State Government has formally acknowledged the EXCO and expressed willingness to partner with it on areas of mutual interest.

Additionally, the Emirs of Katsina and Daura were said to have extended their support to the chapter, enabling it to operate effectively. The Congress of the Katsina State Chapter and members of the public have also continued to provide support, with the Forum noting positive feedback from within and outside the state.

The chapter stated that while it encountered “teething challenges” upon assumption of office, these were handled with decorum and diplomacy, adding that further details would only be made public if the situation escalates into a crisis.
