The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the commencement of recruitment of 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force, following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen internal security and expand the manpower base of the Force.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commission said the recruitment exercise, being conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, is aimed at enhancing community policing and improving public safety across the country. To this end, the PSC has approved the opening of an online recruitment portal for applications from eligible Nigerians.
According to the Commission, applicants seeking enlistment into the General Duty cadre must possess a minimum of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE, NECO or their equivalents, obtained in not more than two sittings. Candidates applying under the Specialists cadre are required to have at least four credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in similar examinations, also in not more than two sittings, in addition to a minimum of three years’ experience and relevant trade tests in their chosen fields.
The PSC stated that interested applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and fall within the age bracket of 18 to 25 years for General Duty applicants, and 18 to 28 years for Specialists. Candidates are also required to be medically, physically and psychologically fit. For the General Duty cadre, male applicants must not be less than 1.67 metres in height, while female applicants must not be less than 1.64 metres. Other requirements, the Commission noted, will be specified on the recruitment portal.
The recruitment portal is scheduled to open from Monday, 15 December 2025, to Sunday, 25 January 2026. All applications are to be submitted online through the official portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.
Emphasising transparency, the PSC assured that the exercise would be conducted in a merit-based and credible manner. It stressed that the application process is free of charge and warned applicants to be vigilant against fraudsters, noting that no payment is required at any stage of the recruitment.
The Commission added that detailed guidelines and requirements would be available on the recruitment portal from 15 December 2025, as well as on the official websites and social media platforms of the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.
The PSC urged qualified and patriotic Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity to serve the nation through the Nigeria Police Force.
