Fresh incidents of banditry have been reported in several communities in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, with residents expressing concern over what they describe as a resurgence of violent attacks despite ongoing security efforts.
According to a Facebook post by a resident, Mahadi Danbinta Guga, suspected bandits attacked Gidan Makaɗa, a settlement in Jaggaba Ward located less than a kilometre from the Kano–Funtua Road, on Monday, July 20, 2026. The attack reportedly claimed one life, left two others injured and resulted in the rustling of cattle.
The post also alleged that seven people abducted from communities in Bakori North remain in captivity, while a resident, Malam Aminu Danƙo of Unguwar Lamiɗo, was reportedly shot dead in his home on the same day.
According to the account, Runji community in Kurami/’Yankwani Ward was also attacked, with cattle allegedly rustled and several residents abducted. Other communities mentioned as having experienced recurring attacks include Ruwan Kuri, Unguwar Shantali and Unguwar Ɗaga.
Mahadi stated that persistent insecurity has forced many residents to abandon their villages for safer locations, and appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore lasting peace across the affected communities.
The Katsina State Government has continued to implement a range of security measures, including support for security agencies and community-based initiatives, to address banditry and other violent crimes across the state.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the reported incidents. The claims by the resident could not be independently verified.
Separately, Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda was in Bakori Local Government Area on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, for a scheduled one-day working visit. No official link has been established between the governor’s visit and the reported security incidents.
